Dappled Light
Since they were in town, Deshaun, Vivienne, and I (and a few other photographers from Google+) met up with Brad and Mandy Sloan (before you ask: yes, they are married), which was a great time where a lot of walking was had by all.
We walked a lot (though to be fair, they walked more), talked a lot, and ate a little food. It was great to meet a little slice of the internet in person.

“This small Lewis chess piece is my adventure totem– a knight errant frozen in the pursuit of his quest. Since he’s small enough to fit anywhere, he follows me everywhere: college, research in Ireland, graduate work in England, and now life in New York. When he takes a place on a table or desk, that place becomes home.”

“My sister and three close friends scoured junk shops, Goodwill, and estate sales all last summer buying champagne glasses to use at my wedding in September, which we did. Since then the collection - over 100 in all of nearly 30 varieties - has shown up at a birthday party, a baby shower, and a holiday party. I like the idea that years from now, while some might break, these glasses will just bump along with my husband and my daughter and me, chronicling a series of high moments that are yet to be decided.”

“These bowls were made by a dear friend and given to me by another. We were all leaving Colorado, leaving each other, other good friends, family, and the warm, full, comfortable lives we had made for ourselves there. Their colors—greens from the ocean and glacial lakes, blues from day to midnight, and sun-bleached oranges—remind me, too, of the West itself, where it sometimes seems a little easier to remember you do not need any more than these things.”
